#15 Avoiding Jury Duty

August 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ever since I was a kid my Dad has tried to avoid jury duty like it was the plague. Having now grown up I too have finally recieved that dreaded letter in the mail requesting my prescence for selection into a criminal cases’ jury. With the expected length at about 4 weeks I can see why bored people would try and avoid this. I mean having never been on a jury I can only imagine that listening to a case in detail remembering everything and trying not to fall asleep in order to make a descision that can affect a persons life seems pretty high stress.

The case may be wuite interesting and it may keep someone entertained for a while but a true bored person would never fall for this especially when nothing can influence the length of attendance. That is why a few friends of mine have come to the conclusion that anything and everything must be done to avoid selection. We came up with dressing up in costumes, acting drunk, being drunk, dressing like a bum or coming across as a heavy set business man with a strong opinion about everything might work on some level but you never know as this would give a true cross section of the community. We ended up deducing that the only way around it was to be yourself and be honest and pray that you don’t get picked. Gee I even got bored writing this post.. if your still reading your probably lining up to become a juror just to avoid this pain!

#14 Cleaning the Gutters… Not in a sexual way

July 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#14 Cleaning the Gutters.. Not in a Sexual WayMy Dad is the sort of person who can’t sit still. Even when it is cold miserable and wet outside he will find something to keep him amused. I am sure he is not the only one. When the heavens open and the rain begins to fall his first job is looking for the gumboots and rain jacket.  Next thing you know he is up the ladder on the side of the house tossing leaves out of the gutter like a mad man.

Now if you happened to be a patient and less bored person one just may take note of which area the gutters need cleaning to be able to approach this task on a warm sunny and dry day.  But a truly bored person will attack

the task head first knowing full well that because it is raining the time taken to complete the task is more dangerous and more time consuming yet more fulfilling of ones boredom.

#13 Sorting a Deck of Cards

#13 Sorting Playing Cards
After sitting around playing cards and trying to come up with new games that a group of people can play. One person is decides that it is time to move onto another more exciting activity. These activities can be anything from cooking to TV or even badminton. But there is always one person that wants to play 52 pick up before leaving the table. This often leaves the host finding and picking up all playing cards. Poor guy.. or girl for that matter…

But a true bored person will decide to rebel against the new activity and fight it alone and make a stand. One that wouldn’t make the newspapers or even the TV but a stand that no one would care about.. except the person left to sort the cards. Number order, colour order and suit order.. all steps one must take to ensure all playing cards are found and all steps one must climb in order to achieve that rewarding feeling when the job is done.

#12 Dancing Like an Idiot

June 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#12 Dancing like Nobody's Watching Dancing one of the greatest and cheapest pastimes and generally is good fun and exciting to watch. However in the hands of a bored person the only way to get satisfaction from dancing is to either get a few laughs or dance with commitment.

Some people dance like an idiot on purpose and always crack themselves up in the process. This is often funny but not quite as funny as someone that can’t dance that is 100% committed to having a great time dancing. Ricky Gervais in the English version of the office busts out an all time classic dance routine and is hilarious for the viewers but awkward for his employee’s. It is those moments that a bored spectator and participant can both enjoy.

#11 Shrinking Chip Packets

June 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#11 Shrinking Chip Packets When I was a kid growing up coming up with the new craze was the craze. One that was particularly exciting was shrinking down a chip packet drilling a hole in it and using it as a key ring.

This had so much novelty for 10 minutes of standing in front of the oven watching a chip packet shrink to the desired size. Mind you it was probably very harmful to ones health but what did that matter you had just eaten a ton of chips!

Collecting a whole part bag of different bags was the holy grail.. sadly I never got there I got over it after just two bags had become small enough and mum told me no more chips for you today.

#10 Inventing Creative Recipes

June 9, 2009 · 1 Comment

#10 Inventing Creative Recipes Inventing a new recipe is one of the greatest and easiest things for a bored person. They are faced with meal situations three times a day and there is never enough recipe’s to keep one entertained. However a common thread among a bored recipe and a regular recipe is the ingredients.

Ingredients tend to completed foods already at one’s disposal. This is where the best combinations come together and often end with a severe overdose of fatty content. A prime example of this is on the blog ‘this is why you’re fat’ this website contains hours of endless inventions that bored people have come up with to satisfy their cure for hunger and boredom.

#9 Following People Closely (Ghosting)

June 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Kid Ghosting/Mocking Man

Kid Ghosting

When i was a kid i used to enjoy becoming a personal space invader. Following people closely until the became aware of your presence. Now I am older and more mature I realise this term has a definition, Ghosting. My theory is it is similar to the mario kart and racing car games where there is a ghost car diriving next to you as a guide for your previous fastest lap. No idea if that is right but i am sticking with it.

Nothing beats a good following and nobody has done it in a more high profile way then radio hosts Hamish & Andy. There are plenty of examples of there work on youtube on and one bloger as collated these moments on one page.

The beauty of the ghosting, and why it appeals to bored people is the low barriers to entry. Its free, can be done on anyone and can be done on anyone. It provides countless minutes of enjoyment and one you and your friends can enjoy. That’s why bored people like it so much.

#8 Enjoying a Rewarding Poo

June 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#8 Enjoying a Rewarding PooPoo. One of the most natural things a human can do. Rhymes like that?! I have found that a bored person does tend to enjoy a poo much more than a person with little time on their hands. The reason is a bored person tends to take the time to appreciate the release of anal pressure. This sense of release is heightened after a large meal, several days of poo drought or a Large night out on the drink.

There are many different types of poo that can be enjoyed. The highlight is definitely the sense of weightlessness within your stomach and intestines. For those of you who don’t know when you have enjoyed a poo, a good measure is the amount of people you tell or want to tell. That can be a good scale. There is also a website dedicated to poo appreciation at rate my poo.com  this does however favor the toilets with larger water area as the picture fully accentuates the size of the poo.

#7 Last Clap Contests

June 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#7 Last Clap ContestsThe last clap contest has been around for many years and originates in many peoples school life. It generally involves two bored people watching an event that requires clapping and the conclusion of a performance. The key is that the main participants in the last clap contest are generally not interested in the performance and as a source of entertainment are willing participants in a last clap contest.

Recently this has been thrown into the spotlight by an episode of family guy where Peter and Cleveland get competitive during a contest. A last clap contest is popular at school events where a peer or teacher are entitled to a round of applause following a presentation. The winner is decided by the last clap. The only rule is that the last clap must not be commented or shhh’d by any non-participants which results in disqualification.

#6 Facestalking on Facebook

May 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

#6 Facestalking on FacebookFacestalking, not sure if this is even a recognised word or term but it should be. It it the term given to people like myself that spend countless hours looking for people you may know or may have known at one point in your life.

There are a few rules to being good at facestalking, including not adding them as a friend That would be weird but looking them up and checking mutual friends is completly normal, apparently. Looking up people you have a crush on and met briefly to do a bit of a background search also slightly creepy but considered quite normal amongst the people with too much time on their hands.

A definate no no is adding people you dont know. Don’t get me wrong it does happen but adding a person as a result of copius amounts of mutual friends is unusual. Especially if a online friendship is not even worked on.
